ABOUT THE BAR EXAM

Format

Montana Essay (Mon.)
MEE and MPT (Tues.)
MBE (Wed.)

MEE: six questions graded applying principles of Montana law (3 hours)

MPT: two questions designed to test an applicant's ability to use fundamental lawyering skills in a realistic situation (3 hours)

MBE: 200 multiple-choice examination (six hours)

MTEE: four Montana essay questions covering a variety of subjects and graded applying principles of Montana law (four hours).

• Contracts;
• Torts;
•. Civil Procedure;
• Evidence;
•. Trusts, Probate and Wills, Guardianships, Conservatorships, and Estates;
• Criminal Law (substantive and procedural);
• Business Organizations;
• Real Property;
• UCC as adopted in Montana (excluding Articles 5, 7, and 8);
• Domestic Relations;
• Agency;
• Workers' Compensation;
• Professional Responsibility (including Rules of Professional Responsibility and the norms of professional conduct);
• Constitutional Law (Federal and State); and
• Income (Federal), Estate, and Gift (Federal and State) Taxation

Grading

Passing score--combined scaled score of 130 or higher

MTEE, MEE, and MPT answers are graded on a scale of zero to five, with five the highest score and zero the lowest. All scores are converted to the 200 MBE point scale and combined with the MBE scaled scores.

The formula for computing scores is:

.25(MTEE scaled score) + .25(MEE scaled score) + .15(MPT scaled score) + .35(MBE scaled score) = Total Score
