ABOUT THE BAR EXAM

Format

Essay/MPT (Tues.): Includes 10 essay questions. Seven essays are administered in the morning and three essays are administered in the afternoon along with the MPT.
MBE (Wed.): 200 multiple choice questions

Grading

Passing score-- a total score of 406 or higher

MBE raw score is the number of questions answered correctly. MBE raw scores are scaled.

Written Test raw score is calculated as follows:
Written Test raw score = Sum of Board's Essay test raw scores + (MPT raw score x 2)

Written Test raw score is converted to MBE scale

To calculate total scaled score, both the MBE and Written Test scaled scores will be rounded to the nearest whole number.

The applicant's total scaled score is computed as follows:

Total Scale Score = (Written Test Scale Score x 2) + MBE Scale Score
