ABOUT THE BAR EXAM

Format

Multistate Essay Exam/Ethics/MPT (Tues.):
• MEE: 7 essay questions
• Ethics: 15 multiple choice items MBE (Wed.): 6 hour, 200-question multiple choice test.

• Business Associations (agency, partnership, corporations, LLCs)
• Conflict of Laws
• Constitutional Law
• Contracts (including UCC Art. 2, Sales)
• Criminal Law and Procedure
• Evidence
• Family Law
• Federal Civil Procedure
• Real Property
• Torts
• Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests)
• U.C.C. (Negotiable Instruments, Art. 3; Secured Transactions, Art. 9)

Grading

Passing score--scaled score of 134 or more

Raw scores are converted to a common scale measurement. The ten components of the Hawaii section of the test (seven MEE questions, two MPT questions and a legal ethics exam) are weighted equally). The sum of these ten converted scaled scores are then added to together to arrive at the applicant's total converted score. The total converted scores are scaled to a score distribution tht has the same mean and standard deviation as the MBE scores in Hawaii on this exam.
