ABOUT THE BAR EXAM

Format

Alabama Essay Section (Monday)
Multi-State Essays & MPT (Tuesday)
MBE (Wednesday)

Alabama Essay Section covers all subjects NOT covered by MBE or Multistate Essay Examination

Multistate Essay Examination covers:
• Business Associations (Agency, Partnership, Corporations, and Limited Liability Companies)
• Conflicts of Laws
• Constitutional Law
• Contracts
• Criminal Law and Procedure
• Evidence
• Family Law
• Federal Civil Procedure
• Real Property
• Torts
• Trusts & Estates

• U.C.C.(Article 3 Negotiable Instruments & Article 9 Secured Transactions).

Grading

Raw scores on essay portions are weighted. Alabama Essay Examination questions are worth 40% of the total written score, Multistate Essay Examination questions are worth 40%, and MPT questions are worth 20%.

The total weighted raw written score is scaled to the MBE using the two approved methods (the equi-percentile method and the standard deviation method).

The applicant's scaled test score consists of MBE, 50%; Alabama Essay Exam, 20%; Multistate Essay Exam, 20%; and MPT, 10%.

Passing score--a combined score of 128.000 or higher (using either scaling method). Scores are rounded down to the next lowest whole number.
